Advanced Eligibility Conditions
There are 5 criterions that an applicant
has to satisfy for appearing in JEE Advanced exam. So, have a close look at -
- Criterion 1: Performance in JEE Main
- Criterion 2: Age Limit

- Criterion 4: Appearance in 10+2 (or equivalent) Examination
- Criterion 5: Earlier Admission at IITs
Now, let’s discuss them in detail one by one….
Performance
in JEE Main: Most necessary point is that candidates
must have qualified JEE Main examination and be among the top 224000 (including
all categories) candidates. The percentages of various categories are:
- OBC-NCL (27%)
- SC (15%)
- ST (7.5%)
- Open Category (50.5%).
- PwD candidates: 5%
Below given table shows the order which will be
followed while selecting the top 220000 candidates in various categories from
last year. The distribution of the additional 4000 candidates eligible from
2019 is yet to be announced by IIT Kanpur.

Age
Term: Students should have born on or after October 1,
1993. Age relaxation to SC/ ST and PwD category candidates will be given of 5
years i.e., they should have been born on or after October 1, 1988.
Number
of Attempts: JEE Advanced entrance examination may
be attempted maximum 2times in consecutive years. Those students who attempted
JEE Advanced examination for the first time will also be eligible for
the present session
Appearance
in 10+2 (or equivalent) Examination: Those students who are
going apply for JEE 2019 they should have appeared for the 10+2 (or equivalent)
examination for the first time in 2019. However, those students
whose 10+2 (or equivalent) examination results for the academic session of 2015
– 16 were declared after June 2016 will also be eligible for JEE Advanced
2019.
Earlier
Admission at IITs: Students must not have been
admitted in any IIT irrespective of whether he/she continued in the programme
or not. IIT seat should also not have been accepted by the candidate in the
past by reporting at the reporting centre. Candidates, whose admissions at IITs
were cancelled, are also not capable to take part in JEE Advanced 2019. Those,
who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any IIT for the first time they will be allowed to participate in JEE Advanced exam. The admission
authorities will also term those students who paid the seat acceptance fee but
did not accept the seats (by not reporting at the reporting centres during
JoSAA) as eligible.
Examinations
which will be Considered Equivalent to 10+2th Standard
- Any Public School, Board or University examination in India or in a foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the AIU.
- H.S.C vocational examination
- Diploma recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or a State Board of Technical Education of at least 3 years duration.
- High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
- Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with a minimum of five subjects.
- Final examination of the two year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
- General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
- Intermediate or two year Pre-University examination conducted by a Board or University recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
- Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities had conducted Final examination of 10+2 system
Performance
in 10+2th Standard (or equivalent) Board Examination
Out of two points published below students
need to satisfy at least one of the following for admission to IITs:
- You should have scored atleast 75% aggregate marks in 10+ 2th (or equivalent) board examinations. For SC/ ST and PwD candidates, the aggregate marks should be atleast 65%.
- You must be within the category wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective 12th standard (or equivalent) board examination.
- The scores secured in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks and the cut off marks for fulfilling the top 20 percentile criterion:
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- A language (if the candidate has taken more than one language, then the language with the higher marks will be considered)
- Any subject other than the above four (the subject with the highest marks will be considered)
