Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must have class
12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from well recognized board of
education.
- Applicants must be unmarried Indian citizens (male or female).
- Normal vision is required but glasses up to plus or minus 2.5 may be allowed.
- Aspirants have to complete a ship-training course prior to the employment. It is a short-term course to train the candidates about the basic security concerns of voyaging.

Selection
Process: Aplicants
have to undergo through the Joint Entrance Examination conducted by the Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT) followed by personal interviews/counseling. After
that, Fresh Marine Engineer (ME) will be selected on the basis of their rank of
fifth engineer or junior engineer.
Promotions depend on further examinations operated by
the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), the quality of experience and
personal merit.
After completion of these examinations the candidate
receives the 'Certificates of Competency' needed for promotion in future.
